Alex Rins wins his first ever MotoGP race in Austin, as he dethrones Marc Marquez who crashes out.

As the lights went out, World Champion, Marquez, bolted from the line and pulled the pin straight away, Valentino Rossi slotted behind the Spaniard in second for the first half of the race. The drama continued with “jump-start gate” as Maverick Viñales and Joan Mir we’re both dealt a ride through penalty for failing to stay still before the lights went out. Both riders took their ride through but found themselves at the back of the pack for the rest of the race.

As the race progressed, Cal Crutchlow was the second faller of the race as he crashed out of third place, seeing his chances of recovering with a podium after his disappointment last time out destroyed. However, Crutchlow wasn’t the only heartbreak Honda were going to suffer this afternoon on American soil, as leader and supposed “King of COTA” crashed out with twelve laps to go. The whole of MotoGP watched with disbelief, as Rossi triumphed past the fallen rider who was inevitably tipped for the win. The HRC disaster continued as Jorge Lorenzo acquired his second mechanical problem of the weekend, seeing his race end prematurely too.

Back at the front, Rins was hunting down the “GOAT” and we were set for a stunning last few laps of battling between the two. Rins found his way past the Italian to take the lead, but wasn’t guaranteed the 25 points as Rossi is renowned for not letting the win slip away from him that easy. Rins rode defensively blocking Rossi’s every move, predicting every direction Rossi would attempt. However, the Spaniard managed to clinch the win and hold off the Doctor to the chequered flag.

Jack Miller finished the race in third to be top Ducati, with Andrea Dovizioso and rookie, Franco Morbidelli, completing the top five.
